The editors of U.S. News & World Report recently announced the winners of this year’s Best Cars for Families. It was no surprise that Chevrolet took three of the coveted awards. But the key here is that annual honor roll is based on published reviews from today’s top auto journalists, which means the winners are the consensus champions in their divisions.

For Chevrolet, those award-winning vehicles included:

  • 2013 Chevy Cruze: The Cruze was recognized as the Best Compact Car for Families, thanks to factors like “its smooth ride, impressive crash test scores, large trunk and good fuel-economy ratings.” In fact, the Cruze Eco can help owners realize best-in-class fuel-economy marks of up to 28 mpg city/42 mpg highway/33 mpg combined. Reviewers also complimented the car’s “high-quality interior materials [that] give the cabin an expensive look and feel.”
  • 2013 Chevy Traverse: Extensively refreshed for the 2013 model year, the Traverse was named the 2013 Best 3-Row Midsize SUV for Families “because it has the best combination of quality, size and family-friendly features in its class.” Particularly worth noting for families is that the experts also lauded all three rows of seating for their comfort, even reporting that “third-row seats are spacious enough to accommodate adults.”
  • 2013 Chevy Suburban: The Suburban comes up big for big families, notching the title of Best Full-Size SUV in the U.S. News rankings. Seating for nine and “cavernous cargo space” certainly help, but this true SUV, built with robust body-on-frame construction, also “achieves good economy for the class” and showcases a comfortable ride. The Suburban further distinguishes itself with a heavy-duty model that can tow up to 9,600 lbs.
