Chevrolet Corvette C6.R Captures Checkered Flag at Sebring

Corvette Racing has kicked off the 2013 American Le Mans Series (ALMS) the same way it ended last year’s competition: in first place. Thanks to a strong team effort, the No. 4 Corvette C6.R race car driven by Tommy Milner, Oliver Gavin and Richard Westbrook opened the ALMS season with a comeback victory in the 61st Annual Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring endurance classic.

The Corvette win was anything but clear sailing, however. Although the winning car was in second position on the starting grid to begin the race, electrical and other issues helped put the team a number of laps behind the leaders early on. It wasn’t until the final 15 minutes of the 12-hour race that Milner was able to catch and pass his Ferrari rival for good.
Said Gavin of his teammate’s final stint behind the wheel: “Tommy was relentless—chasing him down, chasing him down, putting the pressure on. It was a spectacular victory for everybody at Corvette Racing. I’m really delighted.”

While it was the first Corvette win at Sebring since 2009, the crew has been plenty busy in ALMS racing in the meantime. Milner and Gavin combined to bring home driver, team and manufacturer’s championships last year for Corvette Racing, which now has 73 ALMS victories to its credit—the most of any car in any class.

“What an incredible effort by Corvette Racing; these guys never gave up,” said Jim Campbell, U.S. vice president for Chevrolet Performance Vehicles & Motorsports. “They came from behind multiple times. It was a focused team effort, with great driving and great calls in the pits, and great pit stops, and they delivered a big win. I’m proud of them.”
(The Corvette team’s second car—piloted by Antonio Garcia, Jan Magnussen and Jordan Taylor—retired with gearbox problems just before the nine-hour mark of the race and finished in 11th position in the GT Class.)

Chevrolet Boasts Three of the Best Cars for Families

13traverse-007-medium1

The editors of U.S. News & World Report recently announced the winners of this year’s Best Cars for Families. It was no surprise that Chevrolet took three of the coveted awards. But the key here is that annual honor roll is based on published reviews from today’s top auto journalists, which means the winners are the consensus champions in their divisions.

For Chevrolet, those award-winning vehicles included:

  • 2013 Chevy Cruze: The Cruze was recognized as the Best Compact Car for Families, thanks to factors like “its smooth ride, impressive crash test scores, large trunk and good fuel-economy ratings.” In fact, the Cruze Eco can help owners realize best-in-class fuel-economy marks of up to 28 mpg city/42 mpg highway/33 mpg combined. Reviewers also complimented the car’s “high-quality interior materials [that] give the cabin an expensive look and feel.”
  • 2013 Chevy Traverse: Extensively refreshed for the 2013 model year, the Traverse was named the 2013 Best 3-Row Midsize SUV for Families “because it has the best combination of quality, size and family-friendly features in its class.” Particularly worth noting for families is that the experts also lauded all three rows of seating for their comfort, even reporting that “third-row seats are spacious enough to accommodate adults.”
  • 2013 Chevy Suburban: The Suburban comes up big for big families, notching the title of Best Full-Size SUV in the U.S. News rankings. Seating for nine and “cavernous cargo space” certainly help, but this true SUV, built with robust body-on-frame construction, also “achieves good economy for the class” and showcases a comfortable ride. The Suburban further distinguishes itself with a heavy-duty model that can tow up to 9,600 lbs.

Car Review: 2013 Chevrolet Silverado is still big and bad

Cimg2357_s640x427

Limited changes have been made in 2013 on the big and bad Chevrolet Silverado. A bi-fuel-compatible 6.0-liter V8 has been added on the 2013 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD and with this engine, owners have the option to run compressed natural gas or gasoline.

Hands down this is a solid hauling vehicle , but inside it’s all about the ride. When you need to play with the big boys, the 2013 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 is a perfect option. Of note are the strong diesel engine optional and a stronger-than-strong suspension that can support over 3500 pounds of payload.

Competition comes from the Ford F-250 Super Duty or the Ram 2500, but even so the Silverado has no trouble keeping up with these two offerings.

For trims, the 2013 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 is all truck and can be had in either regular, extended or crew cab body styles and that also comes with an option of either two- or four-wheel drive.

The regular cab has an eight-foot bed and the extender and the crew cab can go with either the eight-foot bed or the standard bed at six-and-a-half feet. Trim levels are the base Work Truck, midlevel LT and the top of the line LTZ, but note that the LTZ does not come with a regular cab.

On the Work Truck, it is bare bones with rubberized vinyl flooring, vinyl seat coverings, a 40/20/40-split front bench with fold-down center armrest, 17-inch steel wheels, and a tilt steering wheel.

On the LT trim you get alloy wheels, tinted rear windows, keyless entry, full power  accessories, cloth seats with a locking storage console, leather-wrapped steering wheel, driver-side lumbar adjustments, and cruise control.

The LTZ trim will get you 18-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, automatic locking rear differential, a heavy-duty trailering package, dual-zone automatic climate control, auto-dimming rearview mirror, steering-wheel-mounted cruise, remote starting, and heated leather front bucket seats.

There are also a number of additional features available on the LT from the LTZ package.

Both trims can be upped with 20-inch wheels, aluminum bed extender, protective bedliner, sliding or stationary tool box, sliding bed divider, sunroof, power-sliding rear window, power-adjustable pedals, a heated steering wheel, rear parking sensors, rearview camera, and an EZ-lift tailgate.

There is also an Off-Road Suspension package called the Z71 that will add skid plates, specially tuned shock absorbers and front stabilizer bar. The Appearance package has body-colored grille surround, a chrome mesh grille and 18-inch alloy wheels.

Under the hood of the 2013 Chevrolet Silverado 2500, the standard is a 6.0-liter V8 engine with six-speed automatic. It throws out 360 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque. For the bi-fuel option when using the compressed natural gas (CNG) it is 301 horsepower and 333 pound feet of torque.

There is also the option of a 6.6-liter turbo diesel V8 engine with 397 horsepower and 765 pound- feet of torque together with a six-speed Allison automatic transmission and manual shift control.

On all models, you get rear-wheel drive, but four-wheel drive is optional. On the Work Truck 4WD there is a floor-mounted transfer case, but the other trims have an Autotrac, knob-controlled electric transfer case with automatic setting that engages 4WD during slippage.

When equipped for it, the 2013 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD can move up to 3,670 pounds and it can tow up to 13,000 pounds with a standard ball hitch. Add a fifth-wheel connection and you get a whopping 17,800 pounds of haul.

The standard safety features on the 2013 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 are antilock disc brakes, electronic stability control, traction control, trailer sway control and hill-start control, driver and front passenger, front seat side and side curtain airbags, rear parking sensors, and a rearview camera, all adding to the overall safety.

A look inside the 2013 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 shows a choice of dash designs either the simple look in the Work Truck or LT with dual glove boxes or the LTZ with a luxury feel that includes a center console with wood-grain trim.

From standard work on the Work Truck to high-end leather on the LTZ, the choices are yours on the 2013 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 and either way it makes for a comfortable ride. So no matter the option, you can make sure you own the road.

Preview: Chevrolet at the New York Auto Show 2013

Chevrolet is set to showcase performance at the upcoming New York Auto Show 2013 which is set to open doors on March 27th. Four cars from Chevrolet are set to showcase, they include the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro, the Chevrolet SS Sports Sedan, the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray coupe and the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible.

The Chevrolet Camaro is the most eagerly awaited as its said to feature a similar powerhouse as the Corvette Z06, the all-powerful LS7 V8 engine! Just a quick mention of facts about the LS7 V8 engine. It is known to be the largest and most powerful small block ever built. This engine is hand built and while sold as a crate engine for other applications, it also used in the Vertical Hummingbird helicopter.

In the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro, just like the Corvette Z06, it is expected to produce 505hp. The car will get revisions such as a revised interior design, and revised exterior design and even probably the discontinuation of the SS trim level in favor of Z28.

The 2014 Corvette Stingray Coupe and Convertible were showcased at the Geneva Motor Show 2013 and will also headline the New York Auto Show. As for the new Chevrolet SS Sports Sedan, having debuted in Daytona back in February, it is the first V8 powered, rear-wheel driven performance sedan since 1996. It’s powered by a 6.2L V-8 rated at an estimated 415 horsepower.

Collection of every Chevrolet convertible since 1912

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4

This collection belongs to Dennis Albaugh in Ankeny, Iowa, just north of Des Moines.

The personal and private collection consists of 110 + Chevrolet convertibles... All years from 1912 to 1975 and Corvette convertibles from 1953 to 1975.

There is a Chevy convertible from every year of manufacture EXCEPT 1939...The reason? - Chevy didn't make a convertible in '39 -- and ended its convertible line in '75!

His 'boy toys' include his own 18 hole golf course, copied somewhat after Augusta National. He is what you call a REAL Chevy guy, but his passion seems to be convertibles.
