Limited changes have been made in 2013 on the big and bad Chevrolet Silverado. A bi-fuel-compatible 6.0-liter V8 has been added on the 2013 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD and with this engine, owners have the option to run compressed natural gas or gasoline.
Hands down this is a solid hauling vehicle , but inside it’s all about the ride. When you need to play with the big boys, the 2013 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 is a perfect option. Of note are the strong diesel engine optional and a stronger-than-strong suspension that can support over 3500 pounds of payload.
Competition comes from the Ford F-250 Super Duty or the Ram 2500, but even so the Silverado has no trouble keeping up with these two offerings.
For trims, the 2013 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 is all truck and can be had in either regular, extended or crew cab body styles and that also comes with an option of either two- or four-wheel drive.
The regular cab has an eight-foot bed and the extender and the crew cab can go with either the eight-foot bed or the standard bed at six-and-a-half feet. Trim levels are the base Work Truck, midlevel LT and the top of the line LTZ, but note that the LTZ does not come with a regular cab.
On the Work Truck, it is bare bones with rubberized vinyl flooring, vinyl seat coverings, a 40/20/40-split front bench with fold-down center armrest, 17-inch steel wheels, and a tilt steering wheel.
On the LT trim you get alloy wheels, tinted rear windows, keyless entry, full power accessories, cloth seats with a locking storage console, leather-wrapped steering wheel, driver-side lumbar adjustments, and cruise control.
The LTZ trim will get you 18-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, automatic locking rear differential, a heavy-duty trailering package, dual-zone automatic climate control, auto-dimming rearview mirror, steering-wheel-mounted cruise, remote starting, and heated leather front bucket seats.
There are also a number of additional features available on the LT from the LTZ package.
Both trims can be upped with 20-inch wheels, aluminum bed extender, protective bedliner, sliding or stationary tool box, sliding bed divider, sunroof, power-sliding rear window, power-adjustable pedals, a heated steering wheel, rear parking sensors, rearview camera, and an EZ-lift tailgate.
There is also an Off-Road Suspension package called the Z71 that will add skid plates, specially tuned shock absorbers and front stabilizer bar. The Appearance package has body-colored grille surround, a chrome mesh grille and 18-inch alloy wheels.
Under the hood of the 2013 Chevrolet Silverado 2500, the standard is a 6.0-liter V8 engine with six-speed automatic. It throws out 360 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque. For the bi-fuel option when using the compressed natural gas (CNG) it is 301 horsepower and 333 pound feet of torque.
There is also the option of a 6.6-liter turbo diesel V8 engine with 397 horsepower and 765 pound- feet of torque together with a six-speed Allison automatic transmission and manual shift control.
On all models, you get rear-wheel drive, but four-wheel drive is optional. On the Work Truck 4WD there is a floor-mounted transfer case, but the other trims have an Autotrac, knob-controlled electric transfer case with automatic setting that engages 4WD during slippage.
When equipped for it, the 2013 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD can move up to 3,670 pounds and it can tow up to 13,000 pounds with a standard ball hitch. Add a fifth-wheel connection and you get a whopping 17,800 pounds of haul.
The standard safety features on the 2013 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 are antilock disc brakes, electronic stability control, traction control, trailer sway control and hill-start control, driver and front passenger, front seat side and side curtain airbags, rear parking sensors, and a rearview camera, all adding to the overall safety.
A look inside the 2013 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 shows a choice of dash designs either the simple look in the Work Truck or LT with dual glove boxes or the LTZ with a luxury feel that includes a center console with wood-grain trim.
From standard work on the Work Truck to high-end leather on the LTZ, the choices are yours on the 2013 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 and either way it makes for a comfortable ride. So no matter the option, you can make sure you own the road.
